Kanhoji Angre Samadhi at Alibag

Conservation and Development of Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre Samadhi at Alibag
This family cremation ground of Indias most illustrious Admiral of the 18th century was in a state of neglect. The project created a social and physical wall of protection and honour around the one acre tropical garden to give it a new place of pride among locals.
Kanhoji Angre was the ablest of Admirals of the Maratha Navy who kept the British, French, Portuguese, Dutch naval fleets away from Mumbai for a period of 40 years in the early eighteenth century. His final resting place is an unfinished Chattri (Pavillion) that needed better care, protection and conservation. In association with the local Municipal Council this State Protected Monument was given a new image and place of pride among the locals who hold Kanhoji Angre in great esteem.
